This gentleman appears in a number of BHS yearbooks, but no last name is given. Given the familiar manner in which he is described, it's unlikely that he was a teacher; more likely, he was a custodian or served in another role. He appears to be an amputee, but is too young to have been in the Civil War, and World War I had not yet occured, so he may have been the victim of an industrial accident.
