A number of Bloomfield history books state that banking started in Bloomfield in 1871 with the founding of the Bloomfield Savings Bank. The above banknotes, however, show that the Bank of Bloomfield existed by January 1st, 1863. Both notes are signed by cashier J. A. Smith and president T A. Buckly.
