1888 Bloomfield Map Set

Description

This large set (17 platts, each 36" x 60") is thought to be the map used to assign street numbers to the southern part of Bloomfield. Includes individual households, and businesses, and streets. Each platt is divided into two images (left and right). Layout of platts is shown in the index. Both the index and maps contain errors and omissions.

Notes

This map set was not dated by the cartographer. Evidence that supports the estimated date of 1888 includes the absence of Fairview School and Berkeley Avenue, built in _____; ________; and _______. The map is drawn on poor quality paper, and is believed to be unique. It may have been used to support the assignment and distribution of postal street numbers, as evidenced by a _____, 1890 newspaper article [citation] that directed townspeople to go to _____ to receive their street numbers. The original of this map is housed at the Bloomfield Historical Society museum.

Known errors and omissions include: _____
